When choosing your camping beds and sleeping bags there are a few things to consider..... So let's talk about beds
Self inflating mattress' and Foam Insulated mats The most basic of camping beds is the insulated mats.. at around £5.00 they are the most economical as well. Used particularly by backpackers and hikers when size and weight is critical, these aren't often used amongst family campers unless space is a consideration. They do though have a use later on.... Self inflating mats have also been designed with backpackers and hikers in mind, they are a thicker insulated mat. A one-way valve allows air to be taken in when released. Similarly these are more popular with exbedition campers. Both these options are usually sized in line with a berth on a tent.
Camp Beds Campbeds are evolving all the time , from the traditional Tyrol Camp bed to the basic Camp Bed. Basic Camp Beds are great for children - they are space efficient and compact when packed. The manufacturer does state that they are suitable for adults, we've tried them and whilst they can take the weight - it's not the most comfortable nights sleep! The traditional Tyrol Camp bed has been re-created by many manufacturers - some with clever folding and compact pack sizes. Be careful though they are quite large and really only suit full head height sleeping compartments - very often widthways as well so you can loose vital sleeping space.
Airbeds By far the most popular camping bed.... standard airbeds start from as little as £11.99 so are great value for money. Over the years we have tried lots of different manufacturers for airbeds with different variations and ideas to reduce the niggles that can occur with airbeds - such as needing to re-inflate in the morning, weight ditribution to aviod rolling together. These little niggles can't be avoided with budget airbeds.
Why not invest in an Aerobed? ... We now recommend Aerobed having been requested by a customer a couple of years ago the feedback we have for them is great. They are a little more expensive - but have been particularly designed for outdoor use. They come with a 2 or 3 year guarantee as well as a re-chargeable 12/240v pump - and they really do inflate in less than a minute. Aerobeds offer a great nights sleep , with core stability and anti-roll features, designed for outdoor use so don't need re-inflating in the morning.
