How the Waspinator Works
The Waspinator is a fake Wasps Nest - It acts like a scarecrow for Wasps
Creates a 40ft diameter wasp free zone when hung.
To a Wasp it looks like Waspinator is a fake Wasps Nest - it acts like a scarecrow for Wasps
To a Wasp it looks exactly like a real nest because of its shape and the horizontal pattern which makes it look fibrous and layered - wasps don’t see stationary objects very clearly because their vision is tuned to see small insect movements
Wasps are aggressively territorial – they know to stay well away from the nest of another colony for fear of being attacked or killed by the nest’s defenders
Wasps can see for quite long distances – they can see Waspinator from 20 feet away or more, and will fly away as soon as they recognise it
Wasps have memory – once a Waspinator is established in position wasps know where it is and go somewhere else where they don’t feel threatened
Because Waspinator is a visual repellent it doesn’t harm the environment with chemicals, it doesn’t hurt Wasps, and so it doesn’t disturb the ecological balance of your garden
Waspinator is portable and easy to use – use it on the beach, on picnics, in beer gardens, in school playgrounds, take it on holiday
Unique Benefits
Waspinator scares wasps so they instinctively fly away from it as soon as they see it
Waspinator will keep a large area, around 40ft diameter, free of wasps
Once a Waspinator is established in position, wasps remember it’s there and stay away altogether
Waspinator doesn’t hurt, trap, or kill wasps, so they carry on doing a good job in your garden (killing aphids and cross pollinating plants and flowers)
Waspinator uses no chemicals or poisons and is completely ecologically friendly
There are no dead and dying wasps to clear up with Waspinator unlike traditional traps
Waspinator is completely maintenance free, you just hang it up and that’s it for the year
FAQ'sThe Original Waspinator – Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Waspinator work?
The Waspinator mimics an enemy nest. Wasps are very territorial and will aggressively defend their nest. When a foraging wasp sees an enemy nest they will rapidly leave the area for fear of being attacked. Wasps have a vision range of over 6 metres, but at that range they only see shape and colour not detail.
So, when they see a Waspinator, they think it’s an enemy nest and leave the area for somewhere safer.
Why don’t wasps realise it’s not a real nest?
They tend not to get close enough to use their sense of smell, they take the safest and easiest option and go somewhere else.
Do they fly inside the Waspinator?
No, it’s not a trap, it is more like a scarecrow.
Does it work for all species of wasp
It works for all the species found in the UK, and most found in Europe. It also works for hornets, which are becoming an increasing problem. It will work for other wasp species for which hornets are a predator. It does not work on the Paper Wasp found in hotter areas of Southern Europe.
What is it made of?
It is made of recyclable polypropylene. It is weatherproof, and can be squished up to take out with you to a picnic or the beach, and will easily be puffed up to its working shape. If you want you can put a balloon inside and inflate it, this will help it keep its shape in windy conditions (if you like dining outdoors in the wind). You don’t have to do this in normal outdoors weather.
Where did the idea come from?
It is based on a wasp remedy from the Middle Ages, and updated using modern materials which make it highly effective and practical.
Does it work?
It is highly effective. There are written testimonials by distinguished Entomologists, a scientific field test report, and by users. We have sold 250,000 in Northern America with excellent customer feedback.
Why haven’t I seen it before?
Because it has just been launched in the UK this year.
Why not use a scented candle?
Candles aren’t that effective outdoors, and indoors you can smell their aroma yourself.
Why not use a trap?
Because they are horrible! Traps are messy to use and clean – you use either a poisonous bait which kills the wasps once they are inside, or an attractant bait which gets the wasps into the trap and then they die because they can’t get out. So first the traps attract wasps then they kill them.
Then you have to clean the trap of dead and dying wasps, and of the residue of sticky or poisonous bait. Either way you watch wasps dying.
Also, dying wasps give off a pheromone which acts like a attack signal for other wasps, and they will then come to see what the danger is, ie. more wasps to deal with, and ones that are already agitated.
The Waspinator is a good alternative to traps and sprays – it works, it is environmentally friendly, no toxic chemicals, no mess and dead wasps to clean up, it couldn’t be simpler to use, and it’s portable, and durable.
Couldn’t it be made to look more attractive?
It has to look like a real wasps’ nest otherwise it wouldn’t work. We could make them in brown as well, but most nests are a shade of grey.
